A culinary term that refers to the decoration or presentation of a dish with additional ingredients, which can be either edible or inedible. Garnish can serve to enhance the visual presentation of the dish, add additional flavor or texture, or provide color or flavor contrast. Common examples of garnishes include fresh herbs, cooked vegetables, fruits, sauces, spices and toppings, such as seeds, nuts and grated cheese. The choice of a garnish depends on the dish being prepared, the flavor and appearance you want to create, and the creativity of the chef. A well-chosen and carefully presented garnish can transform a simple dish into a culinary masterpiece.
