Traditional sweet originally from Spain and popular in Latin America, especially in countries such as Argentina, Uruguay and Peru. The alfajor consists of two or more cookies or layers of dough, which can be soft and spongy or firmer and crunchier, filled with a typically thick and sticky sweet, such as dulce de leche, custard or dulce de membrillo. Alfajores are often covered with chocolate, icing sugar or shredded coconut to give them an attractive appearance and additional flavor. There are numerous variations of alfajores, which vary according to region and personal preferences, but they all share the common characteristic of being a delicious and tempting sweet.
